Poll #2 asked “What do you think the language of instruction should be in Tanzania’s secondary schools?”. Response choices were “Swahili”, “English” or “Both”. The poll was open for a week from September 16th to 23rd.
Results showed 16 responses (the following are rounded):
- 19% voted for English
- 38% voted for Swahili
- 44% voted for both languages
Since most people who voted on this poll see both languages as being important in secondary school, how can we imagine instruction being delivered in Swahili and English? Is this possible or too ambitious? Should Swahili take on a central role with English being a subtitle of some sort? Discussion welcome below.
Thank you to everyone who voted (we saw a 60% increase in voter turnout!). Karibu tena.
