TZhiphop is live

TZhiphop is the necessary noise in Bongo’s music scene advocating for Tanzanian Hip Hop. The project is focuses on reconnecting Hip Hop fans and the conscious poetry in the lyrics that reflects the apparent hustles of our society.

The literature within Bongo Hip Hop has been sabotaged by the current appetite of copying and pasting Western styles and stories. The voices of the youth and the streets within the sharp lyrics of Bongo Hip Hop have been lost, and TZhiphop is on the mission to revive the struggle. With its distinctive style of story-telling, whether by Juma Nature’s Temeke slang or Fid Q’s brilliant metaphors. We are looking to being that right balance between the nonstop love stories told by Bongo Flava artists and the conscious lyrics by Hip Hop MCs that seem to have been forced into exile for a while now.

TZhiphop brings you Hali Halisi: The true side of things.

Thus, this is a necessary effort to restore the respect of Tanzanian Hip Hop and use it as a significant tool to educate the society; through articles that discusses Hip Hop’s reflections of the streets and country as a whole. Moreover, Hip Hop songs and albums will be critiqued — after all the lyrics are a work of literature and not just empty raps. Visual aid being a very important part of learning experience, documentaries from abroad and at home will be posted on the site, plus many more kinds of informative materials.

TZhiphop is a collaboration between various stakeholders of the Bongo Hip Hop scene: Some members of the Vijana FM crew, atKariakoo, Kina Klothing, Music-Lab, MxCarter, Ndogoworks, and Voice of the Underground. Here are a few samples of the kind of material that TZhiphop will be examining:

  1. Muheshimiwa AK, good stuff aisee. Kazi ya Nikki Mbishi hapo juu, imesimama. I love the idea of the website. Its about time aisee, at least hip hop artist hapa nyumbani need to feel appreciated. Naona umetuwekea Hasheem a.k.a dogo mwendawazimu. He needs to make a comeback, with Immam Abbas.

I have few old school in my collection, msako wa haki, homa ya dunia, na hili balaa by Solo Thang. Those are definitely classics. Nini dhambi ya Father Nelly (RIP), Kibongo bongo-Mapacha. Hivi mapacha wako wapi? Those kids are talented bana. You guys should definitely give space to pioneers and also the coming talent.

  2. Shukrani Selemani! The efforts are mainly being lead by my peers here at Vijana FM; I’m sure you’ve heard of the likes of SN, Bahati, and Joji au vipi? I’ll wait for them to comment here on plans to sample + review classics as well as coming talent… in the meantime, tutakusubiri kule TZhiphop 🙂 Asante tena.

  4. AK, shukrani!
