Poll #7 asked “Do governance rankings help Tanzania’s development?” Response choices were “Yes” and “No”. The poll was open for a week on the Vijana FM homepage sidebar from October 14th to October 28th.
Results indicated 5 responses:
- 60% responded “Yes”
- 40% responded “No”
Last week, the Mo Ibrahim Foundation released findings from its 6th annual index of African governance, from which no country’s president emerged as a winner for the third time. However, Tanzania was placed 10th out of 52 – the first time the country has landed in one of the top 10 spots.
From this poll, most people agreed that such rankings help a Tanzania’s development. However, two voters disagreed, and one commentator on Twitter felt the poll question itself was flawed.
Do you think the question is legitimate? Have you heard of other rankings that measure governance? What should both – those indexing the ranks as well as those being ranked – consider with regards to development, if anything?
Thank you to all voters and commentators! Discussion welcome below.
