Poll #10 asked “Do you think Tanzania is a secular state?” The poll was open for a week on the Vijana FM homepage sidebar from November 11th to November 18th.
Results indicated 5 responses:
- 80% responded “Yes”
- 20% responded “No”
Generally, Tanzania is assumed to be a secular state. But there are signs in past and recent history that point to gaps in conflict resolution. Particularly, can secular courts judge conflicts rooted in religious discourse? To what extent can religious conflicts transpire in the Tanzanian public sphere?
What makes most voters say that Tanzania is a secular state? How will this perception be affected as we continue to build an East African community?
As always, thank you to our voters. Discussion is welcome below.
