Last year, the Miles Morland Foundation awarded three writing scholarships to authors who were establishing themselves. The purpose of the scholarship was to support authors who need to focus on writing but also need to earn a living at the same.
The three awardees in 2013 were Doreen Baingana of Uganda, Tony Mochama of Kenya, and Percy Zvomuya of Zimbabwe.
Due to an unanticipated number of entries last year, the Foundation is awarding three more scholarships this year.
Applicants must submit a piece or excerpt of original, published work in English. The work must be between 2,000 – 5,000 words. If successful, scholars will receive £18,000, paid monthly over the course of one year. The scholars will also owe a debt of honor of 20% of earnings from writing during the scholarship year.
Applications are due by 31st October 2014.
